McEntire, Gail (2nd Grade)

Welcome to Mrs. McEntire's Classroom

My family Gail McEntire
Welcome to my website!  This site is designed to keep you informed of news and events from our classroom.  Please visit often to see updates, pictures and suggestions to make your child's year in 2nd grade a successful one!

I am a graduate of Appalachian State University with a B.S. degree in Elementary Education. I began teaching at Fairview in 2001 and have taught 3rd grade and 2nd grade.  I am married and have two sons - Tyler and Matthew.  Tyler is the Tight Ends coach at Appalachian State University and Matthew is in his second year in P.A. school at Methodist University.
I look forward to a wonderful year with your child as we explore the wonders of 2nd grade together!  Please contact me with any questions or concerns you have throughout the year.

What professional training and educational background have you had?

I have a B.S. in Early Childhood Education certified K-3 from Appalachian State University.  I have had training in AMC (Assessing Math Concepts), PBIS, Moog Training and Learning By Doing.

What makes Fairview such a special place to teach?

Fairview is a wonderful place to teach.  Teachers and staff are committed to rigorous instruction that focuses on the variety of needs of students.  We are fortunate to have a very supportive PTA and strong parent involvement.

What do you like most about teaching at Fairview?

I love working with my colleagues.  I love that I get to teach in the community where I live.

How would you describe your classroom?

I try very hard to develop a sense of family in my classroom.  My goal is for students to develop strong relationships with each other, work together and learn from each other.

What authors or books inspire you as a teacher?

There are so many wonderful children’s authors – a few of my favorites are Dr. Seuss, Kevin Henkes and Patricia Polacco.

What is your favorite quote about education, children and/or learning?

From Dr. Seuss’ “Oh, the Places You’ll Go!” – Today is your day.  You’re off to great places!  You’re off and away!

In what ways can parents take an active role in your classroom and in their child's learning?

I love to have parents visit the classroom to see what we’re doing.  Children love to see their parents coming in to help.  So much has changed in the way we teach from when I was in school!  I think parents are sometimes surprised not only at how much is expected of their child with our curriculum but how much their children can accomplish.
