Hi! I am the visual arts teacher for grades K-5 here at Fairview Elementary School. I was born and raised in the beautiful Appalachian Mountains of Robbinsville North Carolina.
I have been teaching art for four years, and kindergarten for 2 years. I graduated from Western Carolina University with a BS.Of Ed.in Art, a BS. of Ed in Elementary Education, and a BFA in Photography in 2012. I taught art to grades K through 8 in Cherokee County, North Carolina for three years. I love teaching art and I believe that art is an essential part of every child's overall education. Because I believe that visual arts is interconnected to math, science, language arts, social studies, and basically all areas of study, I practice an integrative approach to teaching. I love to be outdoors riding my mountain bike, white water kayaking, hiking , and camping with my dog Sasha. When I am not outdoors I am making my own art through felting, weaving, and painting with watercolors. I also teach a felting and weaving class at the John C. Campbell Folkschool located in Brasstown N.C. I love to travel and recently I spent two weeks in Montana/ Idaho kayaking and camping the main salmon river and exploring Glacier National Park.
