Weekly Updates

Hello Fairview families,

Happy New Year!  Fairview Elementary is excited about 2020 and has many things to look forward to during the 2nd semester!

Please mark your calendars for the following dates:

We have 2 Daybreak with Dad events coming up next week.  Our K-2 Daybreak with Dad will begin at 7:15 am on Tuesday, January 14th.  Our 3rd-5th Daybreak with Dad will take place on Wednesday, January 15th, also beginning at 7:15 am.  The event will take place in our school theater both mornings and students may get breakfast beginning at 7:15 am.  Breakfast for dads will be on a first come, first serve basis in the theater. A flyer with more information was sent home in this week’s Freddy Friday Folder.

Friday, January 17th will be an Early Dismissal Day with school dismissing 2 hours early at 12:30 pm.  All bus riders will arrive home 2 hours earlier than their normal drop off time. Our car rider line will begin at 12:30 pm and all car riders should be picked up no later than 1:00 pm.  Also, don’t forget that on Monday, January 20th there is no school for students in honor of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.

Fairview families, we need your help!  The federal government sponsors a Free and Reduced Meal Program that enables many of our students to have breakfast and lunch free or at a reduced rate.  We know that our brains and bodies need fuel to function efficiently. What many people do not know is that this federal program is directly linked to funding for our Title I reading program at FES and, therefore, benefits every child in our school.

How can you help?  The answer is simple.  You may apply online at  www.lunchapplication.com  or request a hard copy from our front office. Please consider doing this even if you do not think that you will qualify; the income window is quite generous.  Even if your child never eats in our cafeteria, your completed application can still provide funds for our school. Our hope is that every family will fill out a form regardless of your income. The Child Nutrition Department will review the application and notify you by private letter as to whether or not you qualify. Keep in mind, we are talking about funding based on the number of students who qualify for free/reduced meals.  If you qualify and do not wish for your child to participate in the free/reduced meals program, our school will still receive this essential funding.  You are under no obligation to accept financial assistance if you qualify. Even if we pick up a few more children in this process, it will be worth it.  This is money that will support the instruction of all Fairview Elementary students.

If you have more than one child enrolled, you can list all children on the same form.  If you have applied and qualified in years past, you must remember to reapply each year. We are taking every precaution to ensure the confidentiality of this process.  If you have any questions about the application process or our Title I Reading Program, please do not hesitate to give the school a call. A letter with more information came home in this week’s Freddy Friday Folder.  Thank you so much for working with us to ensure our students nutritional and educational needs are met!

Have a great week ahead!
