Our School

Fairview Elementary School on a Wednesday afternoon.

Our Campus
The present Fairview School building was completed in the fall of 1990. It replaced a structure originally built in 1926 with additions in 1950 and 1976. Since 1990, student enrollment has increased further, making the construction of 9 more classrooms and an addition to the Media Center necessary. We are proud of our recent playground update, which we call our "Field of Dreams," an inclusive space where all students will be able to play together. Further renovations and additions may occur to accommodate changes in class sizes.

Fairview Elementary School is a public school accredited by the Southern Association of Schools and the North Carolina State Department of Public Instruction. The school is located in Fairview, approximately 6 miles southeast of Asheville. The staff serves an approximate population of 750 kindergarten through fifth grade students. The faculty includes one principal, one assistant principal, one art specialist, one physical education teacher, two speech therapists, four special education teachers, one media specialist and 33 classroom teachers. Additional services are regularly provided by one and a half school guidance counselors, an AIG specialist, a program placement specialist, a curriculum specialist, an occupational therapist, a physical therapist, a school psychologist, a home-school coordinator, and an English as a Second Language teacher, a part-time school nurse, and approximately 35 full-time and part-time instructional assistants. Additional part-time art, music and PE specialists also serve our students. Advanced degrees have been earned by 21% of the faculty and several teachers are Nationally Board Certified.

Academic Performance
You can learn more about our academic performance in our NC Report Card, but we are very proud of our recent growth as demonstrated by student standardized test scores. We are also a Title 1 school and offer specialized attention to academics in reading.

Instruction at Fairview Elementary is guided by the North Carolina State and Essential Standards. In addition, county-wide and school-based goals are incorporated into the curriculum. Grade level teams collaborate to ensure that all teachers are utilizing effective strategies and materials. All students have 1:1 access to iPads or laptop computers in their classrooms.
