Meet the Teacher

Welcome to my Classroom
Tina Dula

Hello! My name is Tina Walters and I am thrilled to be teaching Kindergarten at Fairview Elementary!  This will be my tenth year teaching kindergarten and my second year at Fairview Elementary. I can't begin to say how much I love being part of this school family.  I am an Asheville native and product of our local school system.  It is a pleasure to teach in the same schools that gave me so much growing up!  I graduated from UNCA in May 2011 with a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and a K-6 teaching licensure.

I enjoy spending time with my husband and our six amazing children: Megan, Lauren, Matthew, Parker, Carly and Becca.  I love to read, hike, travel, and garden (though my thumb tends to be a bit more brown than green). I love animals and we have a dog, two cats, a guinea pig, and tank full of fish. I should note that our guinea pig, Ruthie, travels to and from school with me each day so she can hang out in kindergarten and make friends with all of our classroom kiddos!

My teaching philosophy is one that centers around inquiry-based learning.  Children are provided with opportunities to explore and discuss their ideas in a collaborative fashion.  This hands-on approach empowers students and builds self confidence.

I am so excited about this school year!  It will be an amazing year of growth for your children, and I feel privileged to be a part of their first year of school!
