My name is Tammy Harris and I have lived in Fairview since 1989. I have been married for 28 years to my wonderful husband, Stacey Harris. I have two daughters, Rylie and Rachel. I taught for 2 years in 3rd grade. I was home after that to care for my children and returned to school full-time in 2005-2006. This will be my 15th year in first grade. I enjoy and consider it a privilege to influence and teach young children. I teach with the philosophy that every child has the right to learn and it is my job to give them the environment and tools to do so. Thank you for trusting me with your children. I know each first grader will experience a year of learning and more independence.  I love to read, sit on the beach and run races at Disney World. Spending time with my family is my favorite thing.

Get to know Mrs. Harris:

My professional training is a degree In Elementary Education K-6 from Mars Hill University. I also have professional experience and training in LLI for struggling students. The other training received is PBIS, PLC, and Smartboard development. I also attended the State Level Math Conference for North Carolina.

Fairview is an amazing place to teach because of the support and resources provided to myself and my classroom. The community and parent support is phenomenal. I love teaching at Fairview because it is like home to me. My husband and both of my children attended Fairview. I was an assistant for 7 years and during that time went back to school to receive my degree.

I would describe my classroom as a fun and active place to be, I love to watch my students interact with each other and their learning. My classroom is bright and colorful. I do prefer organized and structured setting.

Some authors that have inspired me would be Debbie Miller and Stephanie Harvey. These ladies are strong supporters of the young reader and thinker.

My favorite quote about children and education is "The whole purpose of education is to turn mirrors into windows "
Some classroom activities that are favorites for first graders are Holidays Around the World, Young Autthor's Day and Booster FunRun.

I feel that Fairview learners collaborate with others by learning in small groups, using the Smartboard and IPads. I also believe that interactive and differentiated learning encourages and strengthens young children at all levels.

I encourage parents to take an active role in the learning process for their children. I enjoy seeing parents volunteering, attending parent nights and conferences. I also feel it is important for parents to volunteer in the classroom and daily homework routines to support learning.
