Get to know Mrs. Harris:
My professional training is a degree In Elementary Education K-6 from Mars Hill University. I also have professional experience and training in LLI for struggling students. The other training received is PBIS, PLC, and Smartboard development. I also attended the State Level Math Conference for North Carolina.
Fairview is an amazing place to teach because of the support and resources provided to myself and my classroom. The community and parent support is phenomenal. I love teaching at Fairview because it is like home to me. My husband and both of my children attended Fairview. I was an assistant for 7 years and during that time went back to school to receive my degree.
I would describe my classroom as a fun and active place to be, I love to watch my students interact with each other and their learning. My classroom is bright and colorful. I do prefer organized and structured setting.
Some authors that have inspired me would be Debbie Miller and Stephanie Harvey. These ladies are strong supporters of the young reader and thinker.
My favorite quote about children and education is "The whole purpose of education is to turn mirrors into windows "
Some classroom activities that are favorites for my second graders is the gingerbread house display and musical.
I feel that Fairview learners collaborate with others by learning in small groups, using the Smartboard and IPads. I also believe that interactive and differentiated learning encourages and strengthens young children at all levels.
I encourage parents to take an active role in the learning process for their children. I enjoy seeing parents volunteering, attending parent nights and conferences. I also feel it is important for parents to volunteer in the classroom and daily homework routines to support learning.
