PBIS

Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS) is the framework for behavior used throughout our school.  There are school-wide expectations that correspond with the acronym RISE:

R.I.S.E. Expectations:

I can be RESPECTFUL by treating learning, people, and property as important.

I can show INTEGRITY by being honest and fair, even when no one is looking.

I can have SELF-CONTROL by being in charge of my own body and actions.

I can show EFFORT by being my best self.

Behavior management in our class will also be based on RISE.  We will always be on the lookout for good choices, and positive behavior can earn students tickets and other rewards.  If a student makes a poor choice, whenever possible the consequence will be related to the choice that was made (logical consequences).  Behavior “think” sheets may be completed and sent home. You will be contacted by note or phone call for serious or repeated problems with behavior.

Attendance

Attendance is VERY important!  Please get your child to school on time (before 7:55 AM).   If your child arrives late, he/she is already behind. Free breakfast is available each morning in the cafeteria for everyone.  Your child will have more time to eat if he or she arrives earlier. This year, breakfast will be eaten in the cafeteria until 7:45.  After 7:45, students will receive a bag breakfast to take to the classroom. Students can come to the classroom starting at 7:30.

If your child misses a school day, it is school policy that you send a note to explain his/her absence.  Otherwise, the absence will be counted as unexcused. Please be aware that nothing can replace a day in the classroom.  Our lessons and activities are very hands-on.

Take Home Folders

Each night, Monday to Thursday, your child will bring home a folder.  In the folder there is a “Keep at home” side for papers that can stay home and a “Return to school” side for papers that need to be signed or filled out.

Nightly we ask that you:

  • Check the folder.  This is a place to send home notes and information.  I also check these folders each morning, so they are a very good place to send notes, lunch money, etc. to school with your child.  All dismissal changes must be sent in writing.

  • Return the folder daily to school.  This is important so that it continues to be two-way communication between home and school.

On Friday, a special folder will come home, called the Freddy Friday Folder.  This folder will contain all school communication and paperwork from the week, as well as the work that your child has completed.  This is an important folder to check and sign that you have seen each week.

Homework

Monthly reading logs will stay in the take home folder.  Students should read for 20 minutes each night, Monday to Thursday, and record their book title on the reading log.  Additional homework may be sent home from time to time and will almost always be optional.

Conferences

Conferences can be scheduled at any time by contacting me.  We will also have conferences with everyone in the fall and the spring.

Food

Fairview Elementary is nut-free.  Please do not send any food items containing nuts to school with your child.

Communication

I can be reached by phone, email, or a note sent to school.  You may send me questions or notes in your child’s folder. You can always expect to hear back from me within 24 hours.  Please don’t hesitate to contact me with your questions and concerns.
