The gym at Fairview Elementary was filled with excitement as students laced up their sneakers, ready to compete in their own version of the Winter Olympics. Since the games are not being played this year, P.E. Teacher Casey Schneider brought the Olympic spirit to life, turning the class into a fun and educational competition.

“We are learning about the Olympics, specifically the Winter Olympics, and participating in all the winter events,” said Ms. Schneider. “We even included our own sport, snowball throwing.”

Instead of ice and snow, the gym floor became a bobsled track, where students worked in teams to push a scooter. Other fun events included Luge, Ski Jumps, "Ice Climbing," Curling, Ice Hockey, and Snowboarding.

Between events, students learned about real Winter Olympic sports and the values of perseverance and sportsmanship. Though there were no official winners, everyone left feeling like a champion.
